Subject matter Iron Oxide collected from various weathered garden implements
Ground using mortar and pestle during process of making watercolour paint. Iron powder is separated from dirty grinds using a ring magnet. Iron particles form donut shaped pile.
Iron is recycled through numerous states in nature. From hematite to industrial iron to steel to rust and back to the earth.
Iron is essential to human life but in excess can be toxic. The photo shows one stage in my process of making iron oxide pigment to be used in a series of painting for the upcoming “Overload” art exhibition in Australia, Covid-19 permitting. “Overload” is a fund raising and awareness event run by Haemochromatosis Australia.
The Iron Oxide paint was made April 15 2020 in my studio.
