9th May 2019, Heidelberg Germany
The HI AGM will be held following the International Bio-Iron Meeting on May 10th, 2019 at the EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory) Advanced Training Centre, Heidelberg, Germany. HI invites representatives from member organisations to attend the AGM which will be held jointly with that of the European Federation of Associations of Patients with Haemochromatosis (EFAPH. There is no registration fee but HI is unable to provide any funding for travel or accommodation in Heidelberg. Lunch and coffee will be provided free of charge for attendees so we would appreciate knowing who is planning to join the meeting.
HI encourages all member organisations to share news of their activities and achievements by submitting a short report or presentation for the AGM by April 24th. This could be a simple update for those organisations which have previously sent reports to the 2018 AGM. Photos accompanying the report would also be welcome as we would like to publish a selection on the HI website. In a change to established practice, highlights from each report will consolidated into a single presentation for the AGM with full reports made available to all member organisations.
The HI constitution (available on the HI website) states that: ‘At every annual general meeting of the members of the CIO, one-third of the charity trustees shall retire from office. The charity trustees to retire by rotation shall be those who have been longest in office since their last appointment or reappointment. The vacancies so arising may be filled by the decision of the members at the annual general meeting’.
In accordance with this, at the AGM in Heidelberg the following Committee members are retiring: Dr Barbara Butzeck, Mr Howard Don and Ms Emerencia Texiera. They may however stand for re-election and all have indicated that they wish to do this. A new vice president elect prepared to take on the role of President in two years’ time, will also be elected. The retiring President may continue as Past President and Dr Paulo Santos has accepted to remain on the Committee. One current trustee has indicated that he will be stepping down so a vacancy exists for a new committee member.
If you or someone within your national organisation is interested in joining the HI committee please send a brief application outlining your experience and your vision for HI by April 12th to this e-mail address (email@example.com). There is no requirement for any Committee member to have haemochromatosis but applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to patient advocacy.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Heidelberg. It would be helpful if you could indicate if your organization is sending any representatives by April 30th. Attached is a copy of the last trustees’ report and treasurer’s statement which will be updated at the 2019 AGM.
NOTE For those interested in attending the scientific presentations on haemochromatosis at the Bio-Iron Conference there is a reduced registration fee. For details please see the Bio-Iron website (https://bioiron.org/meetings/upcoming-meetings.aspx). Information on travel to Heidelberg and accommodation within Heidelberg is also available on the International Bio-Iron Meeting website.
Kind regards, On behalf of HI Executive Committee
