Bonyhad

These three pictures belong together, these are “blurished” small pieces from the historical heritage of my homeland, in southwestern Hungary. The Neolog Synagoge in Bonyhád from the 18th century, the ruin of a 12th-century church as last remnant of a former medieval settlement, and a deserted house of a depopulated Swabian village. Two of these places also warn us that the discrimination and stigmatization of a group of citizens is more dangerous than any kind of infection. The members of the once thriving Jewish community were deported to Auschwitz in July 1944. But not only Jewish inhabitants were victims of the political games. The third picture also remind us that at one summer night in 1946, in a few hours 13 German-speaking families of Berekalja were evicted.
