The idea for an online photographic exhibition was born during the COVID pandemic as a way of raising awareness when ‘in person’ events were restricted. The intent is to provide an opportunity for people to communicate different aspects of hereditary or genetic haemochromatosis and to share their own insights into and experiences with the condition. The expo is open to amateur and professional photographers, people with the personal experience of hemochromatosis and anyone with an interest in creating images which can help us raise awareness of the condition.

In 2020 the theme Rust Never Sleeps was selected to show that haemochromatosis knows no borders and is present around the world. In 2021 the theme Inheritance or heritage: héritage, herança, herencia, eredità, arv, öröklés, erbe was chosen to communicate the importance of inheritance and genetics to general health and well-being, and of the importance of knowing your family’s health history. Below are the photos which won the People’s Choice Awards in 2020 and 2021 and others which were highly commended for their interpretation of the themes. Click on the photos below to find out more.
