Margaret Mullett B.A., B.Sc. H Dip has been the Chairperson of the Irish Haemochromatosis Association for 20 years, and served as a board member of the IBTS from 2006 to 2009.

She became passionate, some might even say obsessed, about raising awareness of haemochromatosis after her husband George’s death. Margaret said, “I was very lucky to have been married to Dr George Mullett for over thirty years. He was an exceptional man in every way. Very sadly, and all within six weeks, he was diagnosed with haemochromatosis and died awaiting a heart transplant in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, in June 2000. As it transpired, I was also diagnosed with haemochromatosis, and so were our five adult children. George saved our lives. This is why early diagnosis is critical.”

Her mission for over 20 years has been to ensure that no one goes undiagnosed or untreated with haemochromatosis.

“We continue to raise awareness of Ireland’s most common genetic disorder, through information evenings and events, online webinars and providing a helpline, information and support for people with haemochromatosis and their families.”
