Every year, from June 1-7, we celebrate World Haemochromatosis Week, bringing together patient organisations around the world in a shared effort to champion our mission of better awareness, better support, and better care for everyone living with this common yet frequently under-recognised condition.
With events held around the globe, it’s a time to sharpen the focus on patient well‑being, highlight the importance of early detection, and promote evidence-based treatment pathways and up-to-date clinical guidance – empowering patients and healthcare professionals to make confident, informed decisions.
It’s also our opportunity to celebrate and thank the dedicated volunteers, clinicians, researchers and community leaders whose work drives progress and supports those living with the condition.

World Haemochromatosis Week 2026
In 2026 our theme was GET TESTED … BE INFORMED … TAKE ACTION.
Several events took place during WHW 2026 organised directly by our supporters in the UK.
Friends and members of the Haemochromatosis Family Facebook page walked in WHW T-shirts from St Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitley Bay to the, appropriately named “Iron Man” statue at North Shields, stopping off at several pubs along the way to show off their T-shirts and partake of some refreshment!

We asked people to do park runs or walks across the UK, also wearing T shirts, volunteers took our “TEST” posters (pictured) into GPs and pharmacies in their area, and we asked patients and families to use the poster as a screensaver and to circulate it to friends and colleagues. The Fylde coast patient group ran an information table at Blackpool Teaching Hospital and NHS Trust.
We know that our friends and colleagues at HUK were also very active during the week, as were many of our members around the world.
