Professor Graça Porto, Chair of the Joint Scientific Committee since it was established in 2019, has recently announced her retirement.
We want to thank Graça for outstanding dedication and strong commitment to patients and their organisations. Her great leadership has brought real, lasting progress to our shared mission. The results achieved under her guidance have greatly advanced our goals and strengthened our international partnership.
Prof Porto was instrumental in the publication of the patient e-booklet Hemochromatosis: Our Answers to Your Questions which has already been translated into Portuguese, Hungarian, Spanish and Dutch with more translations underway. She also lead the research resulting in the position paper on screening and has been heavily involved in many other research studies on haemochromatosis and initiatives of the JSC.
At the EFAPH annual general meeting in Innsruck, Prof Porto announced that the new Chair of the Joint Scientific Committee is Prof Domenico Girelli, another highly respected haemochromatosis researcher, We look forward to the continuing support of the JSC and collaboration with the research community over the coming years.
